Winter is fast approaching, and just like your traditional bike, your electric bike (e-bike) requires special care to survive the cold season. Proper storage and maintenance of your e-bike will extend its lifespan while ensuring optimal performance when the warmer days return. Here are some tips for properly preparing your e-bike for winter.
1. Store Your Electric Bike Properly
The place where you store your e-bike is crucial for its preservation during the winter months. Here are some best practices to follow:
Keep Your Battery at Room Temperature
The battery is one of the most sensitive components of your e-bike. To protect it, it is recommended to store it in a heated environment, ideally in a room with a constant temperature between 15 and 22°C (59-72°F).
If space is limited and your bike allows, you can remove the battery and store it indoors.
Important: Avoid storing your bike (electric or not) in extreme conditions to prevent damage caused by cold or moisture.
Charge Your Battery to 30-60%
Before storing your battery for the winter, ensure it is charged to about 30-60%. A completely discharged battery can deteriorate, just like one that is fully charged. This charging range helps preserve the health of your battery until spring.
Tip: If you have a Bosch battery (non-"smart" version), we offer a winterization service to ensure your battery is stored in the best possible conditions. If you're unsure about your battery model or have any questions, our in-store team will be happy to assist you.
2. Pre-Winter Maintenance
Before storing your electric bike for the winter, a full maintenance check is highly recommended. This ensures everything is in good condition and helps avoid potential problems when spring arrives. Our mechanical workshop will check your brakes, tires, and also ensure that your electrical system is functioning correctly. A thorough cleaning can also be done to remove any dirt or moisture that could affect the performance of your bike.

3. Reactivation in Spring
When the warmer days return and you're ready to ride your e-bike again, don't forget to check everything to ensure it's functioning properly before heading out. Charge the battery fully, check the overall condition of your bike, inflate the tires, and make sure the brakes and electrical system are in perfect working order.
