The shell, instead of being 100% carbon fiber, is a composite material that will still give you the responsive support of carbon, but without the extra expense. The same extra padding and Fibratek material covers the Iron Flow Saddle, making sure that you will have the same comfort level as the Iron Tekno. That is important because there are few positions potentially more uncomfortable than that which you need to adopt when riding with aero bars. To accommodate the extra pressure at your perineum, the saddle uses a split-nose design with a rubbery net insert in between to allow the airflow required to help dry out your chamois pad after coming from the swimming portion of the race. The nose of the Iron Flow is also narrowly tapered so that you will have more breathing room for your pedal pumping thighs.

You’ll also notice that the saddle’s shell has a flaring at the rear that has been put there to act as an aerodynamic enhancement to prevent the development of turbulence behind the rider’s body. For those of you who do use rear hydration systems, be aware that you’ll want to double-check the adjustability of the system you use. If the saddle mount is really short, then it might not accommodate the tail of the saddle. That aero upward curve at the rear of the saddle also serves the purpose of providing extra support to your backside when in the TT position. The rails are a light, resilient titanium and they are 7mm round, which should alleviate any fears you’ll have as to whether the saddle will work on your post. Since these are titanium rails, you can count on them not only reducing weight, but also ensuring strength and durability, while providing vibration-absorbing comfort.

Like the Iron Tekno Flow, the Selle Italia Iron Flow Saddle comes in two sizes – a narrower and a wider version. The small size is 135mm wide and weighs 265 grams, while the large size is 145mm wide and 270 grams light.
